I never fail to hear someone saying: "Dude, if you need to increase muscle mass you need to eat A LOOOTT of protein, otherwise you won’t achieve it ..."
This is a very common MYTH that can easily be heard in the gym dressing rooms because for many years people have associated protein intake (especially because of the famous smoothies) with increasing muscle mass.
It is important to clarify that this IS NOT TRUE. At a nutritional level, increasing muscle mass depends on the consumption of total calories (energy), consumption of carbohydrates, and of protein, and certainly the type of physical activity performed plays a decisive role, among other factors.
Some general recommendations for increasing muscle mass are:
• Cover the daily energy needs.
• Eat foods or drinks with carbohydrates and protein after training.
• Increase energy consumption between 500-1000 kcal per day (this depends on each person).
• Rest between training sessions.
• Ideally sleep 8 hours per night.
• Perform counter-resistance exercises
• Ensure proper working loads to achieve gaining muscle mass.
Follow the advice of professionals and see the changes.
