Myth #1. DOES WEIGHT LIFTING AFFECTS GROWTH IN CHILDREN?

Many people have prejudices about the practice of sports and some exercises. It is my responsibility as a promoter of an athletic life to help you put an end to all those MYTHS in which most of the people believe.

I have to confess that when I was I child I was told that if I lifted weights I would never be tall. And guess what? I never lifted weights because I was afraid of that and I’m not that tall.

Those kinds of expressions are not only applied to the work out in the gym but also to so many different sports, resulting in sedentary lifestyles from early ages.

Therein lies the reason of why there are so many indolent people, many injuries and diseases, many parents that fear for their children to develop a career in sports as competitors, and even worse, many athletes with physical and mental skills undeveloped.

ATENTION TO THE FUTURE AND CURRENT PARENTS

We have to fight against #sedentariness in people from early ages.

According to my coach Esteban Sibaja, there are multiple studies that demonstrate that normal growth in children is NOT affected if you have professional supervised weightlifting trainings or “gym training”. On the contrary, there’s been found many benefits such as increases in muscle mass, bone density, strength, endurance, mobility and coordination, as well as a marked improvement in mental health that can be reflected in the academic performance of each child.

Importantly, like any other person of any age, when starting a training program under the guidance of professionals, you should begin with the basic and continue with a gradually incorporation of progressions and adjustments to achieve the desired levels.

Now you know it, stop believing everything you hear around and DO NOT let myths stop a child developing his/her potential. If you still have doubts, I invite you to search a little about the 10 year old Irish Bodybuilder Brandon Blake.
