The myth: If women lift weights become muscular.

On many occasions I’ve heard women saying: I don’t lift weights because I’m scared of looking very muscular and that only looks good on men.

This way of thinking not only has a sexist connotation but is also a big lie.

We can’t assume that all women who work out with weights are going to be muscular (this rule also applies for men); there are many other factors that must be taken into account if someone wants to reach muscular hypertrophy.

As my coach Esteban Sibaja says, genetics and muscle composition play an important role for a person to build those desired or hated muscles; combined with the physical work required, you must also have an adequate nutrition, enough sleeping hours and a great mental will. It is a whole healthy lifestyle.

To give you an idea, a bodybuilder manages to achieve their physical appearance after many years and stages of focused training in which most of the cases the responsible use of steroids and the daily work at the gym may become a requirement.

It is important to clarify that the work with weights not only helps you to increase muscle mass, depending on the sport or goals that you are looking for, you can also work on increasing your strength, power, endurance, or the development of abilities in specific areas.

So now you know girls, STOP FALLING into that myth and take advantage of the benefits that weight lifting can bring to your lives and physical appearance. Looking good never hurts.
