Myths in sport: Men are stronger than women

We have grown up in a sexist culture where we have been told that women are "the weaker sex". In fact, what parents tell their sons about not hitting women, is largely derived from this conception of weakness when comparing boys with girls.

When I was in elementary school, I remember I had a female classmate who was always beating one of my male friends. It was a matter of every week. Poor guy! Of course, I should mention that she was bigger than all of my classmates.

It was at that time that I realized that the story that men were stronger than women was just A BIG MYTH.

My coach Esteban Sibaja says that most people have a misconception on this matter, since one cubic centimeter of muscle in the body of a woman has the same work capacity as the body of a man. At the end, we are talking about the same muscle.

Even if we analyze the participation of women in the Olympics (since its official appearance in Antwerp, 1920), we can realize that they have progressed faster than men, who have been participating for more than 300 years in Olympic Games of the modern era. Definitely, this would not have been achieved by the "weaker sex".

The subject of who has more strength depends largely on the size of the body and muscles of the person, between other factor that are not related with physical characteristics. So you could say that both men and women have the ability to develop the same force.

You already know it Gladiators, don't let your children grow up thinking that men are stronger than women. I wouldn't want them to run the same fate as my little friend.
