A PLACE WHERE NEUROSCIENCE IS APPLIED TO SPORT

Did you know that it is possible to boost our physical performance if we work on the development of mental skills that help us create new neural connections? Interesting, right?

That’s what you can do in GoMind, the only place in Costa Rica that focuses on the development of physical and mental abilities that provide athletes an INTEGRAL preparation that can be adapted in a 100% to your sports area.

As I told you a few days ago, I had the opportunity to get into this interesting system of training and I want to share with you my experience in the 4 days I trained beside them.

Their professionals

GoMind has specialists in physical training and sports psychology that are certified in Physical and Mental Training. They also have an extensive experience in national and international sports training elite athletes.

The training method

The first day I visited the facilities, apart from receiving a clear explanation of the training system, I was tested with a system called Functional Movement Screen (FMS).

The FMS is a tool that allows us to identify muscle imbalances or asymmetries in our body by evaluating 7 basic movement patterns that are adopted in the first months of life. This useful assessment allows our coaches to identify if there are any risks of injuries that should be taken into account when training us. Fortunately, I realized that I have a symmetrical body, however there are small muscle imbalances that I should work on.

In the next days we worked on the development of physical and cognitive skills within an organized structure of preparation (Warm up and explanation - Central Work - Active recovery and relaxation - Feedback).

As for the physical skills they were completely adapted to my sports area, Full Contact Martial Arts. We worked on strenght and power in legs, arms and hips, as well as body balance that required muscle memory and concentration.

On the other hand, the development of cognitive skills did require an extra effort, because we had to work on MENTAL ABILITIES and the strengthening of areas such as the CORE and the CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM.

The cognitive skills are developed through customized exercises ranging from the simplest to the most complex according to the capabilities of each person. In those exercises, we worked on memory, attention, intelligence, planning and problem solving skills under pressure. All in one exercise.

These abilities are developed through simple and complex reaction with stimulus that require a reaction or inhibition and the use of memory (E.g. The work out you see in the video when I catch the balls or let them pass, or when I have to throw punches at the balloons according to the lights that light up).

An important fact is that this training method is endorsed by the Argentinian house Acumen Sport, which has international presence.

To conclude, this type of training, apart from requiring a mental and physical effort, entertain a lot due to the nature of them. I could say that this is one of the best ways in which we can GO THE EXTRA MILE in our sport and make a difference at a competitive level.

Thanks to Eddie and Erika for this opportunity, as well as the coaches Rodolfo, Javier and Daniel for sharing their professionalism with me during the trainings.

GLADIATORS ATTENTION !!!
