It’s probable that you know or have heard about the importance of drinking water every day and still don’t worry about ingesting the necessary daily liquids.

Water makes possible one of the most important functions in our body: the transport of nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals) to the cells that need them; it also contributes to specific functions in the muscles, joints, digestive system, body temperature, brain, skin, kidneys and heart.

For all these reasons, water is considered an essential nutrient in our body.

But, how much water should I really consume to stay hydrated?

The professionals from Larisa Paez Nutrition Center make us a general recommendation for men and women (this measure DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT the losses from physical activity mentioned in previous tips):

-Men: 3 liters a day (11 cups of 240 ml).

-Women: 2.2 liters a day (9 cups of 240ml).

It is important to recognize that this is a standard measure and each individual has different needs, so if you want to know the exact amount of liquid required you could use the following formula:

Your weight in pounds ÷ 2 = No. of ounces ÷ 32 = No. of liters per day

Example: 156.52 ÷ 2 = 78.26 ÷ 32 = 2.4 liters daily

Gladiators take into account that in general all liquids for human consumption hydrates except liquor, which generates the opposite effect (dehydrate). Below is a table with examples of beverages and its water content:

An interesting fact is that a person can survive 21 days without food, but can only live 3 days without liquids.

Gladiators, water is life, consume it responsibly.
