How many of you have preferred to stay home on a rainy day instead of doing your exercise routines? Or, how many of you have been defeated by the craving of eating something you know you should not?

These are just two of the real situations that we live every day, where we often prefer the comfort or impulses from now and not think about the future benefits or consequences of not changing an unhealthy habit. In these cases what is failing is the WILLPOWER.

It is scientifically proven that people who have a low level of will are more likely to suffer from psychological disorders, while people who work on their willpower tend to be happier. This is due to the simple fact that the will is closely related with goal achievement.

Would you like to be one of those who cultivates their willpower and fulfills their proposed sports goals?

Fortunately for all of us we can work it out. Neuroscience suggests a series of actions that if we incorporate them into our daily lives will help us strengthen our will. Below I detail my own version of them:

  1. Set clear goals and do not leave any room for doubt.

  2. Look for your own motivation on what you propose to yourself.

  3. Share your goals with those around you: This helps you focus on what you have to do to achieve them and your motivation increases.

  4. Pay attention to your actions and take note of them: For example, if you are on a diet, take note of the amounts consumed versus recommended by professional nutritionists.

  5. Step out of your comfort zone without losing sight of your goal: Change your routine and do things another way. This is healthy and keeps you focused.

  6. Making mistakes is valid, but we must recognize them and get over them: You may not live in the past errors, you can only learn from them.

  7. Whenever your impulsive side motivates you to do something that will harm your goals, think about the consequences and STOP. Here is where your willpower will be tested, and believe me, that the satisfaction of feeling strong is THE BEST.

  8. Eat right on a set schedule and get enough sleep: This helps you stay focused, without chemical imbalances that make it more prone to act on impulse.

Gladiators always remember this phrase: "We can not control the environment, we can only control how we react to it...”

With eager and discipline everything is possible.
