I need to hydrate, is it enough to just drink water?

In a previous post I explained the importance of drinking water daily, and even gave you the formula to calculate the amount that should be consumed during the day; but when it comes to sports and proper hydration, water may not be enough.

The problem is that water doesn’t contain the sodium, potassium, chlorine, magnesium and carbohydrates that our body eliminates when we sweat that are indispensable to replace.

The best option to replenish fluids during exercise sessions and/or competitions is sports drinks as they contain the necessary electrolytes and a simple carbohydrate form (simple sugars) that helps maintain glucose levels in the blood.

It is important to take into account the following:

-These drinks should be composed of 14-20 grams of carbohydrates per 250 ml (4-8%).

- It is recommended to hydrate with these drinks every 10-15 minutes during intense, extensive workouts or competitions.

- Some examples of hydrating drinks are: NUUN tablets, Serum or Powerade Zero.

Gladiators you already know, before and after exercise consume water, but DURING exercise the best option is sports drinks.
