Gladiators today I want to introduce you to another method of physical therapy used in Kinemed, which generated me very positive effects on the recovery of a shoulder injury I got just one week before the last Karate tournament I participated in. I'm talking about the Magnetotherapy.

The Magnetotherapy uses the application of electromagnetic energy through low or high frequencies in the affected areas of the body. The magnetic fields interact with the cells favoring the recovery of physiological equilibrium conditions.

On a sports level, the magnetotherapy can be very effective in accelerating the recovery process of a broken bone, treating the joint injuries in the ankles and wrists, as well as healing those annoying contractures and tendinitis that we can be frequently exposed as athletes.

In general, some of the most important benefits you can receive from this therapy are:

-It has an anti-inflammatory effect

-It works as an analgesic (not immediate but durable)

-It has a tension-relieving effect

-Generates an antispasmodic effect

-Regenerates damaged tissues

But this type of therapy is not limited to the athlete, it can also be used in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, hip or lumbar, ciatalgia, spondylitis, tendinosis, contusions, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, among many others.

The good thing about this type of therapy is that it is completely safe and non-invasive. However, there is only one side effect known called “Paradoxical pain”, which is a pain that occurs between the first and the fifth day after the start of the treatment. It is a reaction of the cellular activation and it is considered normal.

I encourage you to take advantage of this effective therapy offered by physical therapists. Remember that it is very important to trust your injuries to specialist on time. A badly treated injury could leave us out of training forever.
