Have you ever been disappointed because you failed to achieve some sport goal you had raised? Well I certainly have, and I'm sure you have been too.
In fact, it is very common that many people who exercise or practice any sport tend to become disappointed because they fail to achieve the expected results, either physically or in the development of competitive skills.
In my opinion, this problem is basically due to three things:
1. We expect to see results faster than normal,
2. We do not have the necessary knowledge or professional guidance to help us, or
3. We make mistakes that do not allow us to advance at the rate that we could do.
For this reason, it is important to SELF-EVALUATE constantly in order to check for faults and solve deficiencies.
How to self-evaluate?
For days I’ve wanted to share the list of my 10 sports sins that every athlete should AVOID committing. By the way, if you are committing any of them, I recommend correcting it as soon as possible.
1. Not planning
My mother always says that where there is order there is God, and really that is the meaning of planning. It is to be able to organize my times and to detail my schedules. This will allow you to take advantage of time in a better way, which is essential for people who work full time.
2. Have unclear and unreal goals
I need to know where I'm going, that's my real motivation. It is very important to know how to define goals correctly so that we can achieve them and avoid disappointments. If you want to learn how to formulate a goal correctly, I recommend reading the post about the Importance of having sport goals (Click the link).
3. Always train with the same intensity
In order to see progress, we must generate a great variety of stimuli with different intensities. That is the reason why coaches always carry out periodic training schedules by micro cycles and macro cycles. We cannot pretend to improve in a sport if we always do the same things in a linear way, besides it is extremely boring.
4. Have little rest time
Rest is essential, it allows you to recover lost energy and avoid injury. People who do not rest tend to get sick more and fail to achieve 100% of their athletic performance.
5. Have an unhealthy diet and no meal schedule
All the aspects I have mentioned are important, however in my opinion this is one of the main. Not having a meal schedule generates a large number of negative effects (see post in this link) that added to a poor diet could mean throwing away all the gains made with exercise. Always remember the golden rule of 70/30: 70% nutrition - 30% exercise.
6. To erroneously hydrate
Hydration is strictly related to sports performance, so doing it correctly provides you with many benefits before, during and after workouts. Learn to do it correctly in this post (click on the link).
7. Have negative thoughts
The mind is so powerful that it can be my best ally or my worst enemy. Having thoughts that involve "CAN’Ts" ends with the resounding failure of your plans. Winning minds fill it with "CANs" and take negative news as opportunities.
8. Always train alone
Look for company for your workouts from time to time, this generates very positive effects on mental and sports health, improves interpersonal relationships and allows us to have a healthy rivalry that always drives us to improvement.
9. Breathe and live only for sports
There is a very thin line between being disciplined and being obsessed. The second one can cause negative effects, so it is important to find a balance where you can combine all aspects of your life (family, social, economic, pleasure, work, among others). Remember that all extremes tend to be bad.
10. Practice a sport that you do not like
Perfection is in doing what we love. We will never be able to be the best at something that does not fill us emotionally, so loss of interest makes goal fulfillment difficult.
Gladiators do not let little mistakes cause you great disappointments, especially if it is within your reach to correct them. For some the cost may be high, however the reward will always be gigantic.
