Usually, when we hear about the wear in some part of the bone system, we relate it to old age, and it is not bad since this population tends to suffer more from this type of injuries. However, a few days ago I met a 32-year-old sports fan that’s already suffering from a slight hip wear. Situation that really caught my attention.
When I told him what I do for living, the first thing he asked me was: Is it good for me to exercise? What should I do?
Of course he left the task of finding out with my team of Kinemed so that I could share it with all of you.
Let us first understand that a wear on the hip is a decrease or loss of articular cartilage. This can be caused by multiple factors such as age, high impact sports, very repetitive movements and of course, SEDENTARY LIFESTYLES. Believe it or not, curiously it is more prevalent in women than in men.

People who have it describe it as a "discomfort that is deep inside", so it is NOT palpable. These injuries generate a decrease in the movement range and a deep and diffuse pain. This stiffness usually affects more during the morning and decreases as the movement in the day increases.
The most important: How to prevent it?
Although prevention in high impact sports becomes more difficult, the combination of good nutrition and physical care greatly reduces their occurrence. For the specific case of hip we must make sure to give stability to the joints through exercises of middle gluteus, core exercises, stretching and what I ALWAYS recommend: the holy mobility.
I recommend you watching all the videos I've been posting on my social networks about mobility to implement them in your training routines, as well as basic exercises like Plank (see post on how to do it correctly) and the great number of types of Squats that exist Help AVOID this problem or TREAT it no matter your age.
Remember that once the injury appears it can be stopped from growing, but not reversed (only with surgery). Since most of the movements in sports come from our core zone, it is essential to strengthen it to prevent injuries such as hip wear.
Soon I will be commenting on other common types of wear in athletes.
